I hope you’re all safe and sound, at home healthy, and perhaps even happy to be stuck inside. Today’s post are the travel mistakes I’ve made this year that I will never make again. I honestly am still kicking myself for making these mistakes.
Travelling can be fun and adventurous, but there can definitely be a few hiccups on the road.
TRAVEL MISTAKE NO. 1: BOOKING THROUGH A THIRD-PARTY SITE.
Earlier this year, I was booking my flight from Toronto to Manila, which is a trip I make every year because my family is based in Manila and I study in Toronto.
Everything went well! Until it didn’t.
When my school cancelled all in-person classes, I scrambled to change my flight to an earlier one, why? Because I wanted to be with family during this scary time. And so re-booking my flight cost fees and more fees and more fees, until it dawned on me that I probably would have saved so much if I just spent the extra hundred or so dollars by booking through the airline itself because they were waiving change fees due to the current situation.
TRAVEL MISTAKE NO. 2: BOOKING NON-REFUNDABLE ACCOMMODATIONS. WHY?!?!??!?!
I. don’t. know. why. I. did. this.
I guess I’m such a sucker for a good deal and saving money, but unless I’m booking an accommodation for the day of or the day after, I’m always going to choose the refundable option, because life can come at you quick and bite ya!
When I was booking accommodations on Agoda for a now-cancelled trip later this year, I was not expecting anything wrong to happen, clearly, and I sooo regret booking this non-refundable accommodation. Thankfully, I emailed the hostel myself and explained the situation, and they were willing to cancel my reservation for free. Phew! But lesson learned – I will never EVER book anything that is non-refundable! Thank you next! LOL
Sooo that’s all my travel regrets for now, and hopefully this list doesn’t get longer. Moving forward, I will definitely pick the more expensive, refundable option over the non-refundable, cheaper option, even if it hurts, because dealing with the headaches of cancelling and refunding later on are so not worth it!
